About Me:

Hi, My name is Terrence Worthy and I am dedicated to teaching the art of elite on-ball defense. Over the past 30 years, I have played, studied, and developed methods that simplify defensive concepts, making them easier for players to understand & apply in real-game situations. Outside of coaching, I continue to learn, study film, and refine my approach to ensure players receive the best instruction possible.

Youth Basketball Defensive Literacy Program:

Defense isn't just physical, it's also mental.

Defensive literacy is the foundation of elite play, and yet defensive illiteracy is one of the biggest challenges players face. At Academia Meritorious, players work to transform their illiteracy into fluency, giving them the IQ and confidence to impact every possession. I created this academy to help players understand that elite defense is built on discipline, focus, and intelligence.

Instructional Mission & Training Objectives:

Defense is about Intelligence, Discipline & Pride.

The mission is to redefine how players view on-ball defense by teaching it as a skill, not just a responsibility. I believe defense should be empowering, and my goal is to equip athletes with the tools needed to consistently shut down opponents.By becoming a more cerebral defender and raising their defensive standards, players can better maximize their defensive potential and power.

Film Study & Analysis:

Learn to see the game differently.

Film sessions are designed to strengthen player's defensive understandings and to help translate lessons into real, game-time performance. Players learn to critically think, problem solve, as well as make decisions related to executing defensive strategies. Parents can feel confident knowing their child is gaining tools and learning skills that will help them on the court & beyond.
